The first Wednesday of a month has been the market day in Lahti for more than a hundred years. Holiday makers enliven the July event - weather permitting.

Selling and buying Viipurinrinkeli buns.

Baskets made from recycled plastic packages.

Strawberries, obviously...

The Midsummer pole was built and raised by Alanders in honour of the Nordlek folkdance festival. It will stand in the market place just for a week.

I bought a head massager on impulse, and then the inevitable, traditional buns, strawberries, peas in a pod, and the vendace which mother fried for lunch with potatoes and spinach sauce.
